EXPOSURE TOOL

V1.0 DCTL

INTRODUCTION

I drew inspiration for that tool off of the simple way to create LUT’s when a DOP over or underexposes an image. Instead of then always needing to adjust the offset or global wheels in Resolve, this DCTL allows to adjust enable a checkbox for whichever stop from -5 to +5 the image is exposed too.

The goal of the DCTL is to get updated depending on the needs and skills I will develop along the way and to simplify the task of either LUT creation and/or color correction as an on-set DIT.

LINEAR COLOR SPACE

Following a tutorial to create the base of a color space aware DCTL, I followed the steps to start in DaVinci Wide Gamut Intermediate to change over to Linear, which works best with the different float points in DCTL language. Here is the full tutorial by Kaur Hendrikson.

The linear color space does not treat light or image settings with a perceivable curve in mind, but rather as a straight line, from white to black, which allows for the settings to be mathematical in the code.

The details to which equations to use and why can be found in this paper.

THE DCTL

Finally, here is the DCTL, with a download link.

I encourage each and every one of you to have fun with it and to change it to your needs. Just remember to credit me and most importantly Kaur Hendrikson, without whom I’d not have been able to create this DCTL.

If you want to request any changes, pull a change request on my GitHub.

Thanks:)
